Day 163: March 31

WOAH WOAH WOAH.
GUYS I HAVE HAD 1505 PAGEVIEWS SINCE I STARTED THIS BLOG ON OCTOBER 20, 2012.
SO THANKS,
Thanks for overlooking the spelling and grammar errors
For trawling through the chatter and mostly rubbish at the beginning
Thank-you for being patient when I updated late
Or when I wasn't able to update.

The Imposter
This is a true story.
It happened almost 10 years ago.

Nicolas Barclay is your average American 13 year old. He lives in his Texan home with his older sister, Carey, and his mother Beverly. He goes missing on June 13th, 1994 and that is the last he is ever seen of. Or so we think so. Fast forward three years, to October 20th, 1997. Beverly has received a called from the Spanish Police, saying that they'd found a boy claiming he was Nicolas Barclay. Wrong. In fact, this wasn't Nicolas Barclay at all, but a 23 year old French Algerian man who lived as many as 30 identities in a week. He was known as The Chameleon, thanks to his ability to change so quickly from one persona to another, but up to this point, all his other identities had been fake. This was the first time he had ever been a real person. He was to be put into jail for fraud and to get out of it, he began calling police stations, looking for a missing person 'around the age of 16 or 17' - someone he could impersonate. He hit the jackpot when he found Nicolas Barclay. Frederic bleached his dark hair blonde to match Nicolas' and explained his brown eyes by saying he got them from his captors poking drugs into them, causing the colour to change. Frederic, acting as Nicolas, said he'd been flown over from Texas in a millitary style aeroplane and abused by a pedophile ring. He wasn't allowed to speak in english, 'which explained the French accent'. He got an American passport and Carey flew over 8,000 to come and bring him back home. She flew him back to Texas, where the reunion with his 'mother' was recorded. Beverly hugged Nicolas and told him she'd missed him. So far, Frederic Bourdin, the French man, had managed to con both the victims mother and sister into thinking he was the victim, or Nicolas Barclay. He would've gotten away with it, except for one man. Charlie Parker: Private Investigator (PI). Charlie had been put on the case when Nicolas went missing, to see if he could find anything. Charlie took one look at Frederic as Nicholas and knew he looked different. Charlie compared photos and noticed that Frederic's and Nicolas' ears were different. "If you wanted to change your ears, a plastic surgeon would have to rip the whole thing apart". Charlie made it his goal to expose Frederic. He befriended him and finally has enough evidence to expose him. Charlie took Frederic down for a chat at a local diner to tell him, but Frederic knew. He knew that Charlie had known, and he somehow 'deep in his heart, knew that everyone knew'. Frederic was arrested and served 6 years in an American jail for fraud. Nowadays, Frederic lives in France with his wife and his little boy. Frederic also told police that Beverly confessed to him that her oldest son had killed Nicolas and then killed himself by ODing.

This case has never been solved. Charlie Parker, PI, says he's still looking, but this is the strangest case he has ever worked on. Without a doubt, 'there has been nothing stranger'

I don't know what to think. While watching Frederic Bourdin on 60 minutes (news show), I liked him. He didn't seem like the type of person to go around imitating others. Not that you can tell, but he just seemed so normal and average. I guess that it goes back to the old saying 'you can't judge a book by its cover'. The family has since moved out of Texas and live in a small town to get away from the media and questions. I do think that Nicolas is dead, although was he murdered by his brother or by his kidnapper? He could be alibe and kicking, and maybe he, too, has taken on a new identity?

There's a movie out and I really want to see it. I think it's a really interesting case and I really would love to know what is going to happen.

Apparently the movie is good. My sister has seen it.

Day 162: March 30

R.I.P. Richard Griffiths, aka Vernon Dursley from the Harry Potter series.

Uncle Vernon: Fine day Sunday. In my opinion, best day of the week. Why is that, Dudley?
Harry: [when Dudley doesn't answer] Because there’s no post on Sundays?
Uncle Vernon: Right you are, Harry! No post on Sundays. Hah!

No post on Sundays.

Watched Beginners today. Indie film about a young man being rocked by two announcements from his 75 year old father: he has terminal cancer and that he gay and has a young male lover. Very good, artistic, different from other films I've recently seen. Flashbacks frequent the scene as well as repeated scenes. Ewan McGregor is brilliant and so is Melanie Laurent and Christopher Plummer. The dog, Arthur, is what I would classify as a main character. He's a scruffy little Jack Russell and can't be left alone. Oliver (McGregor) has to take Arthur everywhere and sometimes he shares his thoughts and feelings with the dog. It's just really well done and thought out and it seems like it would be international, but it's not, but Anna (Laurent) is French.

Day 161: March 29

Happy Easter.
I hope your friday was good ;)

Number Crunch
I have precisely 53 minutes to get this list finished on time, so it counts as today's date. We have approximately 8 days until central. There are about 3 weeks and 2 days until I start school again. My friends birthday is in 18 days. I have 1 quiz currently waiting for me to ask my dad and tomorrow I will have two. I still have at least 5 more things I need for central and we need to figure out what the first and second speaker are saying for the debate 1st Tuesday back.

Day 160: March 28

Today was the last day of term and my friends and I have been singing this all day:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MU6qDI_DRc4
We are great people. Except we changed the words from Summer, Summer, Summer to Winter, Winter, Winter because what a lovely winter we're having this autumn in Melbz.

I never know if I want to read spoilers or not. Every third post on my Tumblr is Spoilers: Clockwork Princess which I still haven't read and I probably won't read for ages yet. I need to re-read the other books in the series before I read this one and they probably all have like 6 reserves each. I want to know what happens, of course, but also, of course, I'd rather read it in the book. But I also want to know. So far, I've been avoiding Clockwork Princess stuff because I'd rather read it, but ugh, I just want to read it.

But Mockingbird beckons.

Side note: We watched Pan's Labyrinth in film studies and wow. I am not a fan of foreign movies, because subtitles (I have previously done a blog post on my hate of subtitles), but this one was perfect. Del Toro (the director) described it as a 'fairytale for adults' and that's exactly what it is. At first, it comes across as a fairytale, but then the blatant violence* and sinister underlying message of the spanish civil war (I think that was it) is so ever present. Ofelia is so so great as the main character and she's really pretty. Cries. The mother annoys me, she's a weak character and I don't think Ofelia benefits from her a huge amount (besides the mothering thing). I like Pan, but sometimes he's really intimadating and then I have to question if I reaqlly do. Also the fairies and Mercedes and the doctor, but only later, when he says SPOILER his last words. YOU GO GLEN COCO! The Captain (a la, Cap-e-tain), is a vengeful, sadistic and disgusting man, and as much as I hate his character, he's a brilliant actor. FOUR FOR YOU. Mercede's brother <3 The Pale Man is pretty cool with all the visual effects, but I don't think he was on long enough for me to decide whether I liked him or not. The fairies though </3 ONLY OPEN THIS IF YOU'VE SEEN THE MOVIE: http://www.imdb.com/media/rm2110357760/ch0031994 , but places hands on face.

* I have this thing where, when I watch horror movies, I make myself dis-attached from the characters and the horror that's happening. But I hate blatant violence. In this movie, there is quite a lot blatant hand-on-violent weapon and they clearly show you what's happening. SPOLIERS. With the rabbit scene, you're completely not expecting it. It just comes BAM, out of nowhere. And the sewing of the mouth *shivers in ew-ness* But I still watch it.

Day 159: March 27

I GOT MVP!

I FINALLY GOT IT. I HAVE BEEN PLAYING BASKETBALL FOR 9 SEASONS (INCL. THIS ONE) AND I HAVE GOT COACHES AND RUNNERS UP BUT NEVER MVP.

I CAN OFFICIALLY CROSS THAT OFF MY LIFE LIST:
Get a basketball MVP

Ps. MVP stands for most valuable player.

I love basketball. I really do. When I first arrived here and asked my mom if I could do basketball (because that's what everybody was doing), she replied with, "the American sport?". And to go on with the horribly cliched cliche, 'the rest is history'.

I first played for a club called The Garden State Warriors who were just me and my school friends. Some were better than others, but no-one really minded because it was just fun. After about 3 seasons, the club shut down. I was really upset because it was familiar and I'd been with all my friends. I think it was around this time where I had to stop playing. My last season was the u/14s summer season at the end of grade six. My sister started the season after I stopped. At the end of year 8/beginning of grade 9 I was allowed to start again. I was put into my first Bs team, just so I could start off again and just ease into it. We are never speaking about my coach again.

But, that was the first year I had ever won the premiership. I think it was because most of our team was too good for B but not good enough for As and we were stronger than the other teams. We played a Maccabbi team in the finals. Nuff said. Although, it's a bit sad, that by that time, I'd been playing for 7 season and although I'd gotten into the finals everytime, I hadn't won. Ever.

The last two season have been awesome. Again, winter 11/12 we got into the finals, but lost. This season, just finished we came third but it was a fun season; quite chilled.

That's the thing though. As a little kid, I used to be really competitive. Now, though, I'm more like 'yeah, I wanna win, but if I lose, I lose.' It's not such a huge deal. Like, it's always good to win, but when I lose, it's like 'yeah, great, next game'.

Some of the girls though that we play are so violent. I just want to tell them to go take their anger out on a punching bag or something, not on one of us. Sometimes I just want to punch some of the bitchy girls in the face. One of my teammates accidentally tripped this girl up and when the girl on my team apologised, the other girl glared at her and spat 'I'm fine' in a really rude way.

So I definitely won't be playing professionally ever, but it's totally fun and you'll probably see me creaking along playing with my wheelchair buddies when I'm 105.

Day 158: March 26

192.5 days.

It seems I have issues. (well we knew that, it's just evidence of that). Okay, well 192.5 days is not actually halfway. It's actually one hundred and EIGHTY two point five days. I have no clue how I even read it wrong in the first place, I just did.

Wrong.

Exhale. Feel all the old air going out. Inhale. Feel the air filling you up; everywhere - your stomach, your ribs. Exhale. Get rid of the air.

Welcome to my meditation class which I would like to scrunch up into a little ball and throw out the window.

Today, we learnt to breathe. Granted, it wasn't 'normal breathing', per se, but belly breathing which my dad had already taught me to get rid of stitches when I uses to run. (lol)

I just think the irony of the 'class that's meant to make you stress less' is that's it's making me pissed off and then frustrated because I can't do anything and therefore stressed. So the non-stress class is making me stress.

To start from the beginning, I didn't want to go. I've done my fair share of muscle relaxation and clenching and unclenching, and I really didn't think it helped. My parents were rock-solid in their decision. "You have to go, it'll help you". Because apparently on things that concern me, I don't get a choice. Fun times. But then the school made it compulsory, which pisses me off even more. Okay, my parents probably would've made me go, even of it wasn't compulsory, but for the kids whose parents wouldn't have made them go... Ugh. I just don't like super super calm people. It's natural to get angry sometimes, even if it's not around people. It's normal to get frustrated when you can't do something. I just think its creepy that someone is completely calm all the time. Non. Apparently she has never taken Panadol (shit in a hole), never finished a glass of wine, never taken antibiotics (also crap) and thinks that drugs (clinical ones) are never the answer. Well lady, I'd like to see you lying in a hospital bed in a world full of pain refusing to take drugs. She has these blanket ideas that things are either good or bad, right or wrong, calming or not.

Incorrect.

Sadly, I have another 4 sessions of the crap to endure. Oh Jesus.

One hundred and fifty eight things I have to know for the various tests and assessments I'm doing in the next two days (whether it be meanings, synomyns or how to write it):

Day 156: March 24

Two weeks minus one day until Central!!
Whoop whoop!

Okay?
Okay.

Once I've reached 192.5 days (halfway), I'm gonna go backwards. The day after my 192nd point fifth, I'll go back to 191. And then 190 and then 189 etc. It makes everything easier and it's so much less to cope with and my name (365lists1213/The year of a listmaker) still works. Slight problem. When I'm supposed to hit 192.5, I'll be away. So, I'm gonna write the lists before and after and then publish them before i go or after I get back.
The same rule(s) still remain:

Day 155: March 23

85. Thats how many words it took for My Chemical Romance (Mcr) to say goodbye. http://www.mychemicalromance.com/news/

Okay. I'm not a huge fan. Shit, I'm pretty much not a fan at all. I know about three of their songs and that's it. Two of my friends are hardcore killyjoys and this is where I learn stuff from. Mcr was their One Direction or Taylor Swift or Justin Bieber or Selena Gomez. Mcr was the kind of band that helped people. They helped people through the hard times in their lives.
I'm not a tattoo person, but some of their tattoos were WOW. The details, the intricacies.
Gerard's hair (at least I think it was him). I really liked his black hair, but also the blonde and the red and all.
And their voices were good. I didn't like all their music; most of it I hated, but they had good voices. They were talented.
And their costumes for Black Parade. Wow

So,
Ray. Mikey. Gerard. Frank. Goodbye. Maybe you'll come back in three years and announce that you were actually on hiatus and you wanted to copy fob (fall out boy). Maybe this is really the last time you'll sing together or maybe in 20 years time you'll have a reunion.

And to the people who are super judgmental: if you are having a hissy fit about your dashboard or newsfeed or twitter (wall?) being clogged up, shut up. Let people rant, let people be upset. If all you want to do is tell people that their music was shit and that you're happy how that mcr quit, leave. Unplug all your electrical devices and read a book for a few days. If one of your favourite bands broke up/one of your favourite singers stopped singing, you wouldn't want people to tell you to shut up and leave. You would want to rant and be angry and tell people it was their fault and be pissed at the world for a few days.

KILLJOYS MAKE SOME NOISE

Friday 22 March 2013

Day 154: March 22

I really like paper dolls chains.
They're an analogy for people. They're the same in some aspects, but so different in others. They can be fat or skinny or short and freckled and maybe they can have brown hair or blonde hair or have black hair with blonde tips or they could like wearing dresses or they could like girls if they're a girl or they could like both boys and girls or they could be straight and maybe they like watching Glee, but maybe they like watching the footy as well. Their hair can be long or short or maybe they cut it themself and its choppy and they don't to school and they self-harm and guitar is their favourite instrument and they dropped out of school and they hate peas and also pineapple. They can be dressed up every which way and be told that they're something that they're not, but if you really want to know who they are, if you really want to get to the core of this person, then go out out a paper doll and stare at it. That's what everyones like inside. We're the same. We may not like the same people or both like sushi or someone may have cancer, but the other person may have a heart defect and have a green hairbrush.

After that great emotional and deep talk, I need advice. I go to Central* in two weeks tomorrow. Obviously I won't be able to do my lists then, and I can't figure out what I should do. Should I go on hiatus and then just carry on with my lists when I get back? Should I do the lists that I'm missing before and after and just carry on as if nothing happened? Should I scrap the numbered lists and just carry on doing lists because its getting really hard doing numbered lists (especially since I'm getting up to half way). Sadly, I'll miss halfway :(

Day 153: March 21

The wind today was extreme.

At any moment. I expected Dorothy to start yelling for 'Aunt Em, Aunt Em' and that Mary Poppins would fly in on her parrot-handled umbrella. Maybe I would hear the kids from Mary Poppins (Dick and Jane? - Mmm, probably not) singing Lets go fly a kite as they hold pretty coloured kites above their head.
I half expected some intense scary music to start playing and then something, or someone, scary would pop out from behind the blinds and would cackle gleefully or something.
Something definitely should've happened. But alas, AND ALACK, it didn't. (I like the word ALACK, HENCE the capitilisation. Also HENCE).

Day 152: March 20

Can school just be finished already?

I hate the constant tests and assessments and studying and the promise not to get stressed, but still getting stressed.

End of term rush is apparent. There's last minute study sessions being held, there's complaints about every test being on the same day (cough, me, cough).

Everyone's on edge. All the teachers, the students and even the parents. The end of term is so near, EXCEPT IT'S NOT HERE YET.

So we just lost our pre-lims but all is a-okay because there's always next season and they'll hopefully lose to the Jets in the final (there was a rude girl in the team we played. Apparently violence is the answer >.< )

Day 151: March 19

WE JUST FINISHED HOUSE MUSIC AND WE CAME....

(DRUM ROLL PLEASE)

SECOND!!!

Mwahahaha. The house that came first literally always comes last and their dance was amazing. We came second (as we do every year!), by one point!
Next year; there's always next year.

(picture on instagram - laurentheberger)

Each house does three pieces, one choral (singing), one dance and choral (singing and dancing) and one instrumental. You can pick to be in any (but for the instrumental, you actually have to be able to play something). You can be in more than one, but you can also be in just one. The house captains/people in the house choreograph it, figure our choral arrangements and write instrumental scores.

Choral: Colplay medley - Paradise, Viva La Vida, Fix You and Yellow
Choral&Dance - I Believe - Yolanda (but from the movie Honey )
Instrumental - Little Talks (Of Monsters and Men)

Day 150: March 18

Weeeeew! 150 days!!!

AND WEEEW AGAIN BECAUSE MY FRIENDS AND I ARE ALL ON THE SAME BUS FOR CENTRAL !!

Okay, teachers, listen up:

Dear my lovely teachers that I absolutely adore and love (please ignore the sarcastic tone if I do actually like you),

When making dates for these completely irritating and mostly hard tests and assessments, IT WOULD BE GREAT IF YOU COULD CHECK WITH OTHER TEACHERS AND MAYBE NOT MAKE YOUR TESTS ON THE SAME DAY. AND IF THINGS HAPPEN TO BE ON THE SAME DAY AND YOU KNOW ABOUT THIS MAYBE CONSIDER CHANGING IT. ALSO MAYBE LAY OFF FROM YELLING AT US FOR DOING SHIT WHEN THE WHOLE CLASS HAD DONE BADLY. Maybe that's just your teaching. Mmmh, just something to consider. Just a note though, whether you put us next to our friends or someone we hate, we'll talk. Writing our names on the board isn't as scary as your may think. Also, do not say to me "it isn't the bell that dismisses you, it's me". Uh, no. Bell = end of day. End of day = me leaving. So I think that would be the bell dismissing me.

Hugs and kisses (if I don't like you, glares and daggers),
Lauren xoxo

Day 149: March 17

WE WON OUR SEMI FINALS. WEEEEEEW!! Now, to just win pre-lims.

Basketball finals are weird. Four teams go through. 1 v 2 and 3 v 4. Whichever team loses in 1 v 2, they have a second chance. They play the winning team in 3 v 4. Whichever team loses in 3 v 4 is out. It's a weird order because it goes semis, pre-lims and the grand finals (but this all depends on whether you win your respective games or not).

Our pre-lims are on Wednesday, after a full day volleyball tournament with school.

Joy to the world.

Day 148: March 16

Its raining.
Understatement of the century.
It's like a tsunami in rain form.

Welcome to the temperamental place of Melbourne where there are literally four seasons in a day, you have to bring runners, thongs (shoes), a rain jacket, shorts, a thick jumper and a singlet whenever you're going. Oh, and also don't rely too much on the weather forecasting because it's wrong.

I am actually discussing weather.

I hate it when you can tell someone is judging you. They look you up and down in this superior way as if they're better than you at everything. They put their nose up in the air and then smile to themselves because they're better.

It's so disconcerting and it makes you lose confidence in that moment, even though the judger is just being rude.
