Day 145: March 13

I tried that make-up drawing I talked about a few blog posts back (I found some eyeshadow). Let's just say I wasn't talented (but it was fun!!)

Today is 13.03.13. Happy thirteenth of the third, two thousand and thirteen.

I watched the Same Love video for the first time today and, omg. I love it even more now.

The video is the best thing ever (L) and wow, that song ! It's so bloody amazing and I just want to sing it out loud to anyone who's homophobic (except for whoops. I'd probably deafen them). But wow. It's so adorable.

My favourite lines are:
And you can be cured with some treatment and religion ...
But we paraphrase a book written thirty-five-hundred years ago

The fact that people think that you can 'cure' someone of being gay by teaching them about how God hates them is something I actually cannot fathom. Are they actually serious?! I'm not religious and I don't believe in God, but I cannot believe people actually think that. No. As for paraphrasing a book that was written 'thirty five hundred years ago' is ridiculous. The bible, the Torah (I know there's others, but I don't know them). Aren't we the generation of new? Aren't we the generation of adaption? Can't we stop listening to something that was written before any of us existed and begin to evolve and accept?

If I was gay, I would think hip-hop hates me
Have you read the YouTube comments lately?
"Man, that's gay" gets dropped on the daily
We become so numb to what we're saying
A culture founded from oppression
Yet we don't have acceptance for 'em
Call each other faggots behind the keys of a message board
A word rooted in hate, yet our genre still ignores it
Gay is synonymous with the lesser
It's the same hate that's caused wars from religion
Gender to skin color, the complexion of your pigment
The same fight that led people to walk outs and sit ins
It's human rights for everybody, there is no difference!
Live on and be yourself
When I was at church they taught me something else
If you preach hate at the service those words aren't anointed
That holy water that you soak in has been poisoned
When everyone else is more comfortable remaining voiceless
Rather than fighting for humans that have had their rights stolen
I might not be the same, but that's not important
No freedom till we're equal, damn right I support it.

The other day I was discussing with my sister how numb we've become to certain things. Violence and scenes of a sexual nature seem to be the norm nowadays in movies we see. Using the word gay as an adjective is disgusting. I used it at one stage, but I don't anymore. Wiped it from my vocabulary. The weather isn't gay, it's just hot. Calling someone gay because they've done something wrong is an insult to gay people. Gay is not a bad thing, but us people use it as a word with a negative connotation. As Macklemore says, 'gay is synonymous with the lesser'. We certainly make it feel like that. This is the best bit: Gender to skin color, the complexion of your pigment
The same fight that led people to walk outs and sit ins
It's human rights for everybody, there is no difference!
Damn right! We're all human, doesn't matter our skin colour or our race or or sexual orientation. We are all human and we damn well deserve rights. That's it, though. Just because some people aren't gay doesn't mean they can't support it. NO FREEDOM TILL WE'RE EQUAL, DAMN RIGHT I SUPPORT IT.

A world so hateful some would rather die than be who they are
And a certificate on paper isn't gonna solve it all
But it's a damn good place to start
No law is gonna change us
We have to change us
Whatever God you believe in
We come from the same one
Strip away the fear
Underneath it's all the same love

Someone would rather hide their real selves away for a portion of their life so they wouldn't be teased or mocked about it. Isn't that disgraceful? Doesn't that just make us bullies? We make people scared to be themselves and to be true to who they are. It's true; a certificate on paper won't change things right away. But it's a bloody good place to start. At least them we would have a starting line. At the moment, we're still dawdling around in the changing rooms. Whether you're an atheist, a Christian, Jewish, Muslim or any other religion, we all believe in something. For atheists, their something is nothing, for Jews, it's Hashem, for Christians, it's Jesus. Wouldn't our God want to best for us. Wouldn't he want us to be accepting, fierce people?

"Underneath we're all the same love".

(Okay, so this blog post was a jumble of feelings and opinions mushed together. It wasn't a very graceful mush, but I expressed myself as best I could, but I would love to hear your opinions on gay marriage, this song or society as a whole.)
