Day 135: March 3

Imagine living in a house with 8 people for two years and you have to share a bedroom and make as minimal noise as possible. All you could do all day was write, draw, study and read. You were stuck with the same company day in day out, hour after hour. You weren't allowed to look out the windows in case someone saw you. If you had a fight, avoiding people was hard. No snacking, in fear of running out of food. You didn't get along with your roommate - he was strict and thought he was better than you. Your solace was writing. You wrote in your diary everyday and shared things with it no-one else knew.

Welcome to Anne Frank's life. If you haven't read her diary, I recommend it, but not with such rave reviews. Don't get me wrong, I thought it was quite good, it's just that the way everyone raved on and on about it, I thought it would be better. People raise expectations you know. When you're reading it, it's so hard to sympathize/empathize with Anne or the other characters; all you can do is imagine what it was like and think about sympathizing. It's hard because you were never there, never experienced it. I/You could only imagine what it was like. We have nothing to compare it to. (okay so the last few sentences about not being about to emphasize/sympathize didn't really make sense, but I know what it means and that's how I'm explaining it).
