Day 101: Janaury 28

A couple of day ago I was reading The Good Weekend, and I came across an article about sugar (or something. i'm not really sure what the articles main purpose was about). Anyway. There was a whole bunch of statistics about how much sugar was in certain foods. There are 54g of sugar in chocolate spreads, like nutella, and peanut butter has something like 52g (this is per 100g).
Now I hate it when parents/other people say "oh, that's got a heap of sugar, it's really unhealthy". I think, to someone my age/younger, numbers don't mean too much. Like we can hear that it's over half sugar, which is a lot and then maybe we wont eat it for a couple of days and then we're like, "yeah, whatever". I think, if you want to show someone something, you have to actively show them. Like take a packet that can fit up to 100g. Fill it up with 54g of sugar and show that to the child.
It's like when parents warn us about the affects/effects sugar/fat can have on us. Yes, we know it's bad/unhealthy/makes us fat, but it doesn't stop us from eating. I don't think people realise how bad it is until it has happened to them. They (me included), go "oh, it'll never happen to me", the same thing you say when you hear about a car crash or something.
So I think my point is, that parents, show, don't tell and other people, eg kids, just think about effects/affects something can have on you, whether on not you think it's going to happen. Because it might.
